Public Art Committee – Black Heritage Project

The Mayor, members of the Board of Commissioners, City Manager and Public Art Committee (PAC) Members cordially invite you to the unveiling of the Stephen Oliver sculpture Onward Together, the 2nd of two sculptures.*

WHEN: Monday, March 25, 11:00 AM

WHERE: Tarpon Springs Marina, 100 Dodecanese Boulevard
(the north end of parking area).

WHAT:
An introduction of the newly completed second sculpture by artist Stephen Oliver “Onward Together” with an introduction by PAC Chair Joan Jennings and comments from Mayor Costa Vatikiotis.
The Black Heritage Project has been in development for more than three years, encompassing multiple planning stages: including the conceptualization of the
project; a Call to Artists; creation of an Artist Selection Panel comprised of Tina Bucuvalas, Annie Dabbs, Dudley Salley, Rod Davis, Milton Smith, R. Lynn Whitelaw, Teresa Wilkins, Nikolette Henderson and Joan Jennings. With their recommendations, the project progressed to an artist screening and selection stage and then finally the construction of the sculptures.

ARTIST PRESENTATION: Tuesday, March 26, 6:00 PM

The final phase of the Black Heritage Project will feature a presentation by artist Stephen Oliver on Tuesday, March 26, 6:00-7:00 PM at the Cultural Center,
101 S. Pinellas Avenue (Old City Hall) to discuss his concepts and thought processes in the creation of both sculptural pieces and the symbolism and importance of the embedded images. The presentation will be open to questions from attendees.
