The Great State of Florida, Paintings by Christopher M. Still

The City of Tarpon Springs Unveils New Christopher Still Exhibition at Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum

Tarpon Springs, FL –– The City of Tarpon Springs is thrilled to announce the opening of its highly anticipated exhibition “The Great State of Florida” featuring the extraordinary works of acclaimed artist Christopher M. Still. The exhibition, set to officially open its doors on February 20, 2024, promises to be a mesmerizing journey through Still’s masterful depictions of history, culture, and the vibrant spirit of the State of Florida.

“The Great State of Florida” exhibition includes several original works of art donated from private collections to the Friends of Christopher Still and on loan to the City of Tarpon Springs. Visitors can also see a 30-minute video and original works of art featuring his most recent masterpiece “Beautiful and Historic Tarpon Springs,” in the collection of the AdventHealth North Pinellas Hospital. Reproductions of some of Still’s most loved paintings are also on display.

Still says, “The works in this exhibit represent over forty years of inspiration drawn from Florida’s natural beauty, people, and history.  This exhibit is an effort to define a sense of place and who we are as Floridians and celebrate the beautiful and historic city of Tarpon Springs.”

This new exhibition is a testament to Still’s ability to tell compelling stories through art, inviting audiences to explore the deep connections between the past, present, and future. Each piece is a visual narrative offering a profound reflection of the scenic tapestry of Florida. As a special enhancement to the exhibit experience, visitors have the opportunity to utilize their cell phone to engage a unique QR code to view a video of the artist and hear a description of each work of art in his own words. Complimentary ear buds will be available with admission. The museum offers a number of locations to snap a photo suitable for a memorable social media post, but the curved-wall backdrop of the Anclote Lighthouse, serene landscape and Christopher Still’s paint easel promise to be the most popular.

“The Heritage Museum has exhibited beautiful reproductions of Christopher Still’s paintings in our Ecology Wing for many years,” states Cultural & Civic Services Director Diane Wood, “but now to become stewards of nine original masterpieces that our residents and visitors can enjoy really solidifies Tarpon Springs as a prominent cultural and arts destination.”
